WATCH: Twin Falls BASE Jumper Rides Inflatable Boat To River Bank
Every year, thousands of BASE jumpers converge on southern Idaho for one of the most incredible jumps in the United States. The Perrine Bridge elevates to over 480 feet above the Snake River, and over the years locals have been treated to some crazy leaps.
I'm not toying with gravity like that.
I've personally sat and watched dozens of people jump from southern Idaho's most popular bridge. In the summer months if I needed to pay Sportsman's Warehouse, Famous Footwear, or Best Buy a visit on Brideview Boulevard in Twin Falls, there was a good chance I'd catch someone taking the 486-foot free fall.
Perrine Bridge BASE jumpers have gotten pretty creative over the past 10 to 15 years. They've lept from the top of passing trucks (very dangerous), with LED lights in the middle of the night, in various homemade costumes, and most recently on top of an inflatable raft.
I have a lot of respect for people that chose to do these types of activities with the one life they're given, but it's not for me. Even if I weren't deathly terrified of heights, I still wouldn't purposely jump off a bridge or out of an airplane. I'm not toying with gravity like that.
A recent upload to YouTube shows a guy jumping from the bridge in front of a small crowd and using an inflatable raft to soar through the air to the Snake River below. I'd give this jump a solid 9.5.
