‘Winter’s Tale’ Trailer: Colin Farrell’s Love is Timeless
The first trailer for Akiva Goldsman's directorial debut 'Winter's Tale' will probably make the most sense to those who've read the Mark Helprin book. We're a little unsure of what to make of it, though it stars Colin Farrell as a charming thief and Russell Crowe as a bad guy (and possible sorcerer), so it could be worth watching.
The film suggests a love that spans from the early part of the twentieth century to modern day, with Farrell somehow ageless, or sent forward in time... whatever it is, it gives him amnesia, while in the past he romances a pretty lady ('Downton Abbey''s Jessica Brown Findlay) who's dying of something. In that way, it reminds of a lot of earlier romantic weepies (with 'Love Story' the most famous), but there seem to be twists and turns to this century-spanning love story. And magic (we think).
'Winter's Tale' opens February 14. Here's the film's synopsis:
Set in a mythic New York City and spanning more than a century, “Winter’s Tale” is a story of miracles, crossed destinies, and the age-old battle between good and evil. The film stars Colin Farrell (“Total Recall”), Jessica Brown Findlay (TV’s “Downton Abbey”), and Oscar® winners Jennifer Connelly (“A Beautiful Mind”), William Hurt (“Kiss of the Spider Woman”), Eva Marie Saint (“On the Waterfront”) and Russell Crowe (“Gladiator”). “Winter’s Tale” also introduces young newcomers Ripley Sobo and Mckayla Twiggs (both from Broadway’s “Once”). The film marks the directorial debut of Academy Award®-winning screenwriter Akiva Goldsman (“A Beautiful Mind”), who also wrote the screenplay, based on the acclaimed novel by Mark Helprin.
