Any type of surgery can leave you dealing with some serious side effects, but 56-year-old Karen Butler has experienced something especially peculiar. Since her oral surgery a year and a half ago, the Oregon woman has spoken with a bizarre English-meets-Irish-meets-Russian accent.

She says the oral surgeon used a sedative and that when she awoke from her surgery, she suddenly spoke with a new accent. Family members and the surgeon confirm this is true, and home videos from before the surgery show her speaking with a traditional American accent.

Doctors have since diagnosed Butler with "foreign accent syndrome," a rare neurological condition that affects an infinitely small group of people. Her husband says that the family's had more fun with the new voice than anything else.
