Christmas Day is just about upon us once again Idaho. In a few hours, we will be unwrapping gifts given to us from aunts, uncles, step-parents, mother and fathers-in-law, distant cousins, old friends, new friends, and everyone in between, and the facial expression you make during the process could tip off those around you to how you really feel about your present, especially if you loathe it.

"It's the thought that counts." This mentality has forever been ingrained in my psyche because of the way I was raised, and I've told my kids the same thing. Some people, however, don't prescribe to this idea. The wrong gift given during Christmas can send some people into a temporary state of anxiety, and it can often be identified in their facial expressions, eye contact, and chosen words the moment the package is cracked open.

In my opinion, a "resting gift face" is better than no gift face at all.

Do you or someone you know suffer from "resting gift face" during the holidays? This occurs when a person receives a gift that is unpleasing to them but tries to cover up the fact without anyone around noticing. I've read that not making eye contact for a short period, overexpressing love for the gift, and projecting a sort of look that resembles disgust masked by a forced smile are all signs of a "resting gift face."

Not only have I experienced this condition personally, but I'm pretty damn good at it. In my opinion, a "resting gift face" is better than no gift face at all.
