‘Deliver Us From Evil’ Trailer: You Haven’t Seen True Evil Just Yet
As films like 'The Conjuring' and 'The Last Exorcism' (Parts 1 and 2) tackled the exorcism/possession horror tale in new and, primarily in the case of the former, interesting ways, so too is 'Deliver Us From Evil,' the new trailer for which takes exorcism to the streets. If you can get past Eric Bana's New Yawkah accent and the fact that Olivia Munn is his wife, you'll be in for a scare or two.
Whereas our first two looks at the film played up the creeps and thrills, the new international 'Deliver Us From Evil' trailer gets right to the story behind these disturbing events.
'Deliver Us From Evil' is based on true events -- a common selling point for many horror films nowadays -- having been adapted from the book by real-life New Yorker police officer Ralph Sarchie (played by Bana in the film). The story centers on Ralph as he experiences a new kind of evil ("primary evil," as it's called) that straddles the line of the supernatural. That's where Edgar Ramirez's "unconventional priest" comes into the picture to teach him the ways of exorcism.
There's also a certain 'Constantine'-esque element to this story -- a detective of sorts begins to realize he can see a ghostly world and must dabble with forces beyond his control to expel the evil -- but our interest is still intact given the awesomely gorey depiction of these contorted, possessed beings that give Bana the creeps.
'Deliver Us From Evil' hits theaters July 2.
