Is Idaho More or Less Obese Than the Rest of the United States?
Obesity is not something that people feel comfortable talking about, but it is arguably the biggest contributor to serious illness and death in the United States. Talking about it openly may help people be more honest with their health providers and themselves.
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has released a map of the 50 states, Washington D.C., and 3 U.S. territories showing results of data collected through 2022. It measures self-reported weight, height, ethnicity, and level of education.
If the map is to be taken at face value, it would appear that out of 54 states and territories, Idaho ranks 23rd least obese. That doesn’t seem like the best of numbers. Of course, D.C. reports itself as having the least number of obese people. Considering who all works in D.C., how much stock to put in those answers is debatable.
It doesn’t seem unlikely that Nearby Colorado or California has fewer obese people. They would have to eat something other than chia seeds and romaine lettuce with a side of celery stick leaves to have any obesity to speak of. Then again, maybe only the super thin people were willing to answer the surveyors. Pride goeth before the fall. However, Hawaii is totally trustworthy in all respects.
This information was gained through surveys conducted via telephone interviews. If you don’t like the results, maybe you should answer those survey callers more often so they can get records from more people and be honest about your weight and height.
