Christmas has come and gone, but the holiday spirit is still in the air. Lights remain up, presents remain scattered throughout the home, and of course, there are plenty of Christmas cookies left to eat. Through the holiday season, there are tons of cookies to bake and hand out, but also plenty to eat, that will often linger for days and weeks at a time. Over the last couple of weeks, the people of the Magic Valley have been voting for their favorite Christmas cookie to consume this time of year, and the results are finally in. Which cookie is the best, and which ones do people not prefer, even if they say they like them?

After weeks of research and eating, and tons of votes being cast, the results are in, and surprisingly it wasn't even close. The best Christmas cookie, voted by residents in Idaho, is Christmas sugar cookies with frosting. The cookie received a little over half of the vote. The second favorite cookie is Gingerbread cookies, with Kiss cookies coming in at third. The battle for second and third was close, but sugar cookies with frosting, ran away with it by a wide margin. While the top three aren't overly shocking, some of the cookies that were at the bottom were a little surprising.

There are some cookies that people claim to like when at Christmas parties or a friend's or family member's house, but in reality, don't like them that much. The truth has come out, with the poll. M&M cookies were tied for the worst Christmas cookie. Is this because some don't view them as Christmas cookies, or is this because they aren't that good? Another surprising one tied for last was oatmeal cookies. The question again needs to be asked, bad cookie or not seasonal with Christmas? The most astounding one of all though is that shortbread cookie was tied for last. Many tins are being given out to friends, family members, and coworkers, and these cookies typically don't last long, as everyone states, 'I love this cookie,' but according to the poll, that doesn't appear to be the case.

While the poll won't tell the whole story, it does reveal that one cookie stands alone among the rest when it comes to Christmas cookies in Idaho. The gooey frosting, the sweetness' of sugar, and the unique shapes, all make for the perfect cookie to enjoy during the holiday season. Hopefully there are some left for you to enjoy as the final days of the year tick away, but if your house is like mine, they were the first ones gone. Enjoy what cookies are left and enjoy the remainder of the holiday season.
