A tragic scene unfolded on one of the busiest freeways in the country Tuesday as two horses were struck and killed by motorists. Another horse was rounded up and safely moved to the shoulder of a freeway near Los Angeles.

The 5 Freeway in Southern California is one of the heaviest traveled in America. Auto accidents occur daily along the nearly 800-mile state freeway, but ones involving livestock are far less common. Motorists traveling through the city of Sylmar, which is 25 northwest of LA, witnessed a horrific event this week.

This had to have been a devastating sight for those who witnessed the animal fatalities. Luckily, no mention of major injuries to the drivers involved has been reported, according to KTLA 5.
