New Maps Feature Snake River Like You’ve Never Seen It Before
I've seen plenty of maps in my life, but never one like this. A guy has created a rainbow map that documents all of the river basins in the US including our own Snake River.
High resolution map of all the permanent and temporary streams and rivers of the contiguous 48 states in beautiful rainbow colours
Unlike me, Imgur user Fejetlenfej obviously paid attention in geography class. Here's what he was trying to accomplish.
High resolution map of all the permanent and temporary streams and rivers of the contiguous 48 states in beautiful rainbow colours, divided into catchment areas. It shows Strahler Stream Order Classification. The higher the stream order, the thicker the line.
Thanks to this (obviously very smart) guy, I have been forced to learn something. Thanks to his graphic, it's easy to see how the Snake River is a tributary of the Columbia River. NOTE: there will not be a quiz at the end of this blog.
The one thing (among many) that I did not know was how all of the many streams in the western and northern states flow into the Mississippi River Basin. Deep thoughts, literally.
If these maps are the best thing you've ever seen, this dude does have high-resolution prints available on Etsy. As for me, I'll be trying to figure out to play the word "tributary" in my next Words With Friends game.
