As is the case in many marriages, it takes two (or more) paychecks to get by in a world that's becoming increasingly expensive to live in. When the average income for a state is low, it presents significant problems.

Roommates come in handy when it comes to sharing bills, but finding the right one can be a headache. I've been married for 11 years, and my wife and I still function very much like roommates in some regards. We both contribute to the bills, groceries, and all the other expenses involved in keeping a household running.
Porch.com recently published data that puts the Gem State in the 25th to 30th percentile for adults 'living in doubled-up households.' Hawaii and California are the two states that have the most adults living together in this manner, according to the website.
Several Idahoans responded to a 2024 post on a state Reddit website, where many shared frustrations over high property rental costs and a continuation of low incomes being paid to residents.
