Wolfgang Van Halen to Appear on Sevendust Guitarist’s Solo Album
Sevendust guitarist Clint Lowery said that Wolfgang Van Halen would appear on his debut solo album, playing drums and perhaps some bass too.
It follows Van Halen's appearance on the past two albums by Tremonti, led by Alter Bridge guitarist Mark Tremonti, which came after Van Halen joined as a touring member.
“I’ve decided to release a project under my name that is gonna represent where I’m at musically right now,” Lowery said in a statement. I feel the need to do this and stand on my own two feet and push myself to make some music that moves me. To express myself.”
After saying he invited some guests to take part, he replied to a fan’s query about who would play drums by tweeting, “@WolfVanHalen will be playing drums, maybe some bass. I’ll do the rest. Just not good enough on the kit myself to pull it off in studio.”
Van Halen was reported to have completed work on his own solo album in July 2018, though no further details have been revealed. At the time, producer Michael “Elvis” Baskette – who’ll also work on Lowery’s LP – said, “There are no words to describe the sense of excitement and accomplishment of finishing the last mix on this amazing record. It’s so awesome and I’m super proud of it on all levels. It’s been a long time coming but it will be very worth the wait! Proud of you ... love ya.”
The project is thought to have begun around 2015, when Wolfgang’s father, Eddie Van Halen, described it as “AC/DC meets Van Halen meets aggressive pop.” “The riffs are catchy," he noted. "It’s a little of everything and sounds like a freight train coming at you. I’ve never heard anything quite like it. It’s so powerful that I’m jealous.”
