Couple Who Bathed Dog In Yellowstone Hot Pool A Case For Pet Ban?
For decades, tourists have been passing through the entrance to America's first established national park and embarrassing their families and friends by engaging in thoughtless, asinine buffoonery about the wildlife and the nearly 10,000 geysers and thermal pools within its majestic boundaries. An incident that happened in 2021 may have been the worst case of animal endangerment in the park's history and has many people feeling like dogs should be banned from traveling to Yellowstone with familes.
If you've ever visited Yellowstone National Park, you know what a special place it is. I've had the good fortune to camp and snowmobile throughout the territory, and it's indescribable how amazing the place is.
A Reddit post from 2022 raised the question of whether or not tourists should be forced to leave dogs at home when planning Yellowstone trips.
The greatest experience I've ever had in nature happened in 2008 when a herd of bison walked up a snow-covered hill and right past our group of snowmobilers. I'll forever be grateful that my daughter and wife were by my side to witness it. That afternoon had a profound impact on me and I've been a passionate defender of the park ever since.
A writer from the website Whiskey Riff recently shared an update to a 2021 case where a couple visiting the park allowed their leashless dogs to wander into a heated thermal pool. The incident is just one of the countless number of reckless acts carried out by park visitors in recent decades. Posing for selfies with wildlife and illegally entering areas forbidden by park officials are two offenses that seem to happen repeatedly every year.
