An annual event celebrating winter that attracts a large number of fun-seekers and families to a river community 140 miles east of Twin Falls is happening the first weekend of February. Details on the 2022 Lava Hot Springs Fire & Ice Winterfest are available.

Lava Hot Springs is a two-hour drive east of Twin Falls. The community is gearing up for a February tradition that includes a breakfast, river race, fireworks, wine tasting, children's events, and other activities. This year's festival is Friday and Saturday, February 4 and 5.

The nationally-recognized winter festival is back despite the continuing Coronavirus concerns. According to the website, masks are not mandatory but are recommended. Hand sanitizer stations will also be available, and the river float and swimsuit race are optional public activities. There will be a beer garden, children's water carnival, chili cookoff, fire dancers, a penguin race fundraiser, and a firework show also included in the activities.

For those that wish to truly get immersed in the celebration, make sure you bring your swimsuit, something extra to wear, and a towel. The river float race and "running of the bulls," which is a swimsuit jog through the downtown area, will no doubt leave you a bit chilly and in need of a change of clothes.
