Northern Lights From Sun Burst Expected Over Idaho Fri & Sat
One of the greatest joys in life for people who love staring up at the night sky is when the Aurora Borealis can be seen. It's being predicted that a massive burst of energy from the sun will allow people in a dozen states, including Idaho, to get a rare glimpse of the spectacular occurrence this weekend.
It's been approximately four months since I got my first look at what has been a bucket list experience for me as far back as I can remember. In October of 2024, many states that rarely get to see it, including California, got an evening window into the Northern Lights following a powerful geomagnetic storm.
Getting away from as much light pollution as possible and to higher elevations is suggested when the opportunity to see the Aurora Borealis presents itself.

On October 10, my wife called me out to the balcony of our home just outside Yosemite National Park to show me a picture she had taken. She had to use a special setting on her phone to make the images visible, and there it was over some Pine Trees that line our street. Colors of red, purple, green, and yellow could be seen in the sky above Central California swirling overhead; it wasn't how I envisioned my first time experiencing it, but I'm thankful nonetheless.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Space Weather Prediction Center is predicting that Idaho, Washington, Alaska, Minnesota, Montana, and North Dakota will get the opportunity to see the Northern Lights either Friday or Saturday evening, according to cw39.com. Aurorahunter.com has also predicted similar atmospheric conditions for the approaching weekend.
