Memorial Day is Monday, May 29. It's a day to remember and honor our United States military servicemen and women who made the ultimate sacrifice, and it's also a day to crank out some tasty barbeque for friends and family.

I hope by now those planning to host gatherings on Memorial Day have taken a moment to check propane levels on the tanks. The biggest mistake a host griller can make is having to run out to the local filling station after the meat begins to sizzle. I speak from experience on this one.

We haven't quite cemented our menu for Monday yet. This will be the first Memorial Day without my dad who passed away in February in Twin Falls. So, he'll be on my mind a lot over the weekend I'm sure.

I plan to visit my dad's gravesite at the Snake River Cemetery soon. He was a United States Marine veteran who served in the Vietnam War, and I'm incredibly proud of that fact.

Now, back to food. Tastingtable.com did a survey last year on America's favorite Memorial Day barbeque side dish. Baked beans were the 2022 preferred side dish by those who participated. I'll take potato or Caesar Salad all day over baked beans, but I don't mind them at all.

Would you agree with this survey from 2022? Will baked beans be featured at your Idaho Memorial Day gathering?

We hope you have a great holiday weekend. We salute our American fallen military heroes.

LOOK: Best Beers From Every State

To find the best beer in each state and Washington D.C., Stacker analyzed January 2020 data from BeerAdvocate, a website that gathers user scores for beer in real-time. BeerAdvocate makes its determinations by compiling consumer ratings for all 50 states and Washington D.C. and applying a weighted rank to each. The weighted rank pulls the beer toward the list's average based on the number of ratings it has and aims to allow lesser-known beers to increase in rank. Only beers with at least 10 rankings to be considered; we took it a step further to only include beers with at least 100 user rankings in our gallery. Keep reading to find out what the best beer is in each of the 50 states and Washington D.C.
